i would assume that some or a good number of us here as normal humans in this society - consider " lawless " actions to include murder , robbery, extortion, rape, child abuse, war , terrorism, etc.
the wt society has their own definition of what's considered " lawless ".
anything that's considered a disfellowshipping offense in the jehovah's witnesses is now considered " lawless ".
I find it interesting that they are using the word "lawless". I have always thought of them as lawless as they do not abide by the law of the land regarding child molesters etc.
In fact, it could be argued that child molesters could actually become a JW to give them more opportunity and less chance of being caught.
Child molesters are sick wherever they come from but a million percent worse when done under the guise of being "religious".

What I love about birthdays is that it is a different day. If we had that sort of day all the time it would become meaningless. Also, it is so lovely to enjoy someone else's birthday with them too. Such a lovely thing to be spoilt and to spoil someone else for a day.
Hope everyone gets to enjoy theirs now. It is nothing to do with being materialistic either.

i went to a catholic funeral yesterday.
there was no wake, only a mass and the burial and military honors at the cemetery.
although it was not a relative, my j.w.
I was always told that they shouldn't enter any other religious building, whether this is just said in the UK I don't know.
When my husband and I got married (we were in our forties and he was brought up a JW) his mother said she wouldn't come to the wedding if we got married in church.
Maybe it depends on what the particular Elders say in some congregations.

background: long-time doubter, giving way to frustration and skepticism beginning about 10 years ago and finally to total admission that this is a cult and that atheism is the way to go.

When attending meetings and they called people Apostates I used to wonder "how do they know" the dictionary says it is someone who has lost their faith and I could not understand how they could possibly know whether someone has lost their faith or not unless, of course, that person has actually told them this.

Thanks Black Sheep - as you will note it was a very long time ago.
However, my husband left his home aged 25 and moved over 100 miles away. His parents in the meantime after many years were reinstated but go to a different congregation to the one they were disfellowshipped from. His mother visited my husband and went to his local meeting and against his wishes put the wheels in motion for him to be reinstated.
Since reading posts on this site it seems normal for meetings to be held regarding reinstatement etc. however this didn't occur with my husband. Apparently an Elder telephoned the congregation where the disfellowshipping had taken place and was told that they hadn't really done anything wrong so he was reinstated without any of the usual meetings.
I think it is an unusual case.
However, we have now not attended a KH in two years and so far MIL has not interfered! Long may this last.

slimboyfat - my husband was disfellowshipped in the seventies for associating with his parents.
His parents had been disfellowshipped but they continued to take my husband and his older brother to the meeting every week whilst they sat outside in their car.
A handwritten note was pushed through their door disfellowshipping the two boys for associating with their parents! The boys were approximately 14 and 15 or 15 and 16 at the time and obviously living at home. Apparently they had the choice of going to live with one of the brothers if they didn't want to be disfellowshipped.

My husband listened to it too and says he feels fired and angry now though he hasn't been to the KH in two years, he says it just brings it all back and obviously we feel deeply for all those still trapped.

i stood there on the doorstep in my pj's, care free and all fired up.
i was asked how i was doing & then informed that they had my latest mags.
Wow, well done you.
Amazing though, no matter how much you tell them the truth, the stuff they had been saying for years they now don't want to hear it and shut it out as though it was never ever preached.

My husband and I were only talking about this the other day. We think that we would be "love bombed" and asked the usual 20 questions etc. etc.
However, we said we would love to go back and arrive just as it starts so no-one would have a chance to ask us anything then leave after the first meeting! They would be so annoyed at us leaving before any of them could ask the usual nosey questions!
